In this new, original book, Cecilie Bingham puts fairness, trust, organisational justice, and power at the heart of employment relationships in a variety of settings. Based on current research, mini-case studies, news items, and exercises, this thought-provoking text provides academic, practical and theoretical insights into the contested nature of contemporary work and employment relations at workplace level. It should become essential reading for students, scholars, practitioners and policy-makers in the field

(Professor David Farnham 2016-01-06)

This new text by Cecilie Bingham provides a welcome critical, reflective and contemporary perspective on the employment relationship in the UK and beyond. While the subject matter is both wide- ranging and topical, ranging from modern forms of slavery to zero hours contracts and 24/7 working, the reader- friendly analysis is lucidly informed by salient theory and never loses sight of power and asymmetry as defining characteristics in the employment relationship.

(Graham Hollinshead 2016-01-18)

The core themes of fairness and workplace justice will touch a chord with students whilst the insights and subject awareness will find a welcome with HR practitioners and academics. The short case studies enable the reader to relate the text to real world situations.

This highly readable book examines employment relations from the standpoint of fairness and organisational justice. Chapters include recent relevant case examples and newsflash reports, making tangible issues in academic debates. A Light Affliction: a History of Film Preservation and Restoration, by Michael Binder

A history of film preservation and restoration, telling the story from the earliest days of the cinema to the modern days of digital restorations. The cinema was invented in the Victorian era, but for the first four decades of its existence almost no effort was made to preserve the millions of feet of celluloid which rolled through the cameras and projectors of the world. As a result, thousands of movies were lost forever. In the 1930s, the first concerted attempts at film preservation were begun by pioneering individuals such as Iris Barry at New York's Museum of Modern Art; Ernest Lindgren at the British Film Institute, and the indomitable Henri Langlois at the Cinmathque franaise, a man who performed heroics in occupied France to save the world's cinematic heritage from destruction by the Nazis. The 1980s video boom encouraged the studios finally to instigate asset protection programmes and in the digital age new methods of producing, exhibiting and restoring motion pictures emerged.

Great teaching tool
By Kimberly
This book is required reading for my general psychology students. Complex issues in behavioral science are presented in a clear, almost conversational manner, through discussion of apt examples like MPD and false memories, Clever Hans, crop circles, claims of alien abductions, conspiracy theories, and homeopathic medicine. The chapters are short (10-15 pgs.) and can be related to the intro psych text book chapters, thus it is fairly easy to integrate the material into the syllabus. For example, Ch. 4 covers the need to evaluate appeals to authority and expertise, in part by walking the reader through Milgram's obedience research and explaining the results, which makes it a good companion for the text book chapter on social psychology. Most students find the book compelling and thought provoking, and class discussions are lively and fun for me and for them. At semester's end, students are equipped with knowledge and thinking skills that will help them to sort science from pseudoscience, spot fallacious reasoning and bias in themselves and others, and examine correlations and claims of causation critically.

Borderline boring and extremely simplistic-a little hypocritical
By Thames River Arms
This book was with at least well laid out and somewhat cohesive, but I found it to be an extremely simple book in general. Most of the arguments made were obvious arguments that even the average person who has very little experience in psychology or even life in general could figure out for themselves. Anyone who purchased this book to fill a requirement in college is probably already smart enough to figure out about 90% of what the author is saying on their own.

I also found that the author contradicted himself numerous times by attempting to apply critical thinking skills to his pet peeve subjects but just arbitrarily discard those critical thinking tactics on the subjects that he clearly has no issues with. I don't care how you argue for a particular subject but at least stay consistent. He stresses how important peer-review is while completely ignoring the fact that many great scientists were laughed at for the majority of their career while being right, and many great scientists were accepted as geniuses when history has proven that not only were they wrong, but dead wrong.

Critical thinking usually boils down to taking the time to think things through while leaving emotions outs of the thought process. Remove any preconceived ideas or generalizations and look at the facts as well as you know them, question everything and come to your own conclusion. I found this book borderline boring and thought it would be more applicable for a middle school curriculum.

I'm not saying he did anything particularly wrong on purpose, it just seems as though either on his own or to meet a requirement he had to write a 400 page document about critical thinking and busted it out as quick as he could. Some of his examples were so basic and rudimentary but I honestly thought he was joking at times. One disturbing thing that I noticed is that he clearly has a list of things that he doesn't believe in. He occasionally mocks these subjects and applies his "critical thinking techniques" to the subjects yet doesn't apply these techniques to the subjects he apparently agrees with.

I am not going to get into the specifics because if you read this book you can draw your own conclusions. I am simply saying that if you're planning on actually learning anything from this book, you may be disappointed.

Review

‘The first thing we did was buy the Adventure Motorcycling Handbook’

Ewan McGregor, The Long Way Round

‘Biker’s bible, packed with practical information.’

THE TRAVELLER (UK)

‘Whether you’re just dreaming of an adventure, or you’ve already started planning, you must read this book ... Chris Scott’s a veteran of serious travel’

Bike magazine (UK)

‘An absolute must for those who are thinking about seeing the world on their bike.’

Inside Motorcycles (Canada)

‘As essential as a set of tyre levers, and as dependable as the sunshine in the Sahara. Highly recommended.’

Trail Bike Magazine (UK)

‘Invaluable.’

THE TIMES (UK)

‘Does for adventure riding books what “Saving Private Ryan” does for war movies.’

Motorcycle Consumer News (USA)

I remember the first time I met Chris Scott, on a cold Colorado morning near Durango. He had decided to fly all the way to the US to buy an inflatable kayak, a plan that would save him nearly the cost of the trip in taxes and shipping. I do suspect the decision was made partially for practical reasons, but I think Chris just wanted to get lost for a weekend- in reality, Chris has been trying to get lost his entire life. As a traveler and editor, Chris isinfinitelylikable, and not because of his extensive experience (which he has in spades), but because of his honest, genuine and simple approach to equipment, vehicles and travel.Even a casual review of Chris' travels show a fantastic diversity and infinite practicality. From traveling in Australia by BMW motorcycle to bouncing around Morocco in a Mercedes sedan, Chris has made a lifetime emphasis on the pursuit of approachable adventuring. It is that emphasis that makes the Adventure Motorcycling Handbook so incredibly valuable. It is not a glossy sales brochure for Triumph or BMW, but a gritty, honest, hard won review of what actually works and what you really need to ride a motorcycle overland.

The Adventure Motorcycle Handbook follows a logical review of pursuing moto travel, starting with planning and preparation before selecting a bike and then ultimately living on the road and selecting individual routes. Chris does a great job of interjecting the thoughts, musings and opinions of other experts, all lending to a broader perspective and more interesting read. The book also includes some important updates regarding new models, current route conditions and improved technologies for equipment. While the book is absolutely a definitive guide to praparing for a round-the-world expedition or even a short jaunt to Baja, it most importantly serves as aninspirationto the reader, an impetus to venture further.

Lots of new material in the 6th edition...
By K9 Gromit
Even if you have a well worn copy of the last edition, it's worth upgrading to the latest (Nov, 2012 - 6th ed) of the AMH. Tons of new material and the same solid format that made this book great in the first place. Buy the book, read the book, ride out to an Overland Expo or a Horizons Unlimited meetup, do a few exploratory journeys (mostly to see how *little* you need to be comfortable on the road then go for it...

It's suggestions are extensive and cover many things that would have otherwise been overlooked (travel visas, international insurance, carnets, etc).

I've found it very easy to read for both short and long stints. It's spectacularly well-edited, you rarely find yourself having to turn the page to read the last two sentences of a section before putting the book down. The writing is concise and gives examples and alternatives that might be helpful to riders of all skill levels.

If you're even a bit interested in overland travel via motorcycle you should absolutely get this book. You won't be disappointed.

For many readers, Forge “will be one of the best novels they have ever read” (starred review from Kirkus Reviews)!

Blistering winds. Bitter cold. And the hope of a new future. In this compelling sequel to Chains, a National Book Award Finalist and winner of the Scott O’Dell Award for Historical Fiction, acclaimed author Laurie Halse Anderson shifts perspective from Isabel to Curzon and brings to the page the tale of what it takes for runaway slaves to forge their own paths in a world of obstacles—and in the midst of the American Revolution.

The Patriot Army was shaped and strengthened by the desperate circumstances of the Valley Forge winter. This is where Curzon the boy becomes Curzon the young man. In addition to the hardships of soldiering, he lives with the fear of discovery, for he is an escaped slave passing for free. And then there is Isabel, who is also at Valley Forge—against her will. She and Curzon have to sort out the tangled threads of their friendship while figuring out what stands between the two of them and true freedom.

Gr 6-10–This sequel to Chains (S & S, 2008) opens with Curzon, an enslaved teen who was freed from prison by Isabel, recalling his escape and anticipating the future. After an argument with Isabel about where they should go next, the 15-year-old battles the British at Saratoga and winters in Valley Forge with the Patriots. He reveals many details of the conditions endured by the soldiers during the winter of 1777-1778, including the limited food supply, lack of adequate shelter, and tattered clothing. When Curzon and Isabel meet again, they have both been captured and must devise a plan of escape once again. While the Patriots are fighting for the freedom of a country, these young people must fight for their personal freedom. This sequel can be read alone but readers will benefit from reading the first book, which develops the characters and reveals events leading up to the winter at Valley Forge. An appendix clarifies historical facts and real-life characters. A list of colloquial terms used throughout the novel is appended.Denise Moore, O'Gorman Junior High School, Sioux Falls, SD

Anderson follows her searing, multi-award-winning novel Chains (2008) with this well-researched sequel, also set during the Revolutionary War and narrated by a young African American. This time, though, her central character is male, and the heartbreaking drama shifts from Chains’ domestic town houses to graphically described bloody battlefields. After a narrowly successful escape from Manhattan, former slaves Isabel and Curzon separate, and Curzon is once again on the run. He finds necessary food and shelter as a private with the Continental army, and through Curzon’s eyes, Anderson re-creates pivotal historical scenes, including the desperate conditions at Valley Forge. Curzon isn’t as fully realized here as Isabel was in Chains, resulting in a less-cohesive and -compelling whole. Once again, though, Anderson’s detailed story creates a cinematic sense of history while raising crucial questions about racism, the ethics of war, and the hypocrisies that underlie our country’s founding definitions of freedom. Chapter heads excerpted from historical documents and a long appendix that offers research suggestions and separates fact and fiction add further curricular appeal. Grades 5-8. --Gillian Engberg

At the end of Chains (2008), Isabel rescues her friend Curzon from Bridewell Prison and rows away from Manhattan in their escape from slavery. Now, in the second of the planned trilogy, Isabel goes her own way, and 15-year-old Curzon takes over as narrator. Passing as free, he joins the Continental Army at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777-78, where, against the most desperate of circumstances, he forges a friendship with fellow soldiers. When he is enslaved again and meets up with Isabel, he and she must once again take liberty into their own hands and find a way to escape. Weaving a huge amount of historical detail seamlessly into the story, Anderson creates a vivid setting, believable characters both good and despicable and a clear portrayal of the moral ambiguity of the Revolutionary age. Not only can this sequel stand alone, for many readers it will be one of the best novels they have ever read. Second in the Seeds of America trilogy, this sequel to the National Book Award finalist Chains is narrated by Curzon, the slave Isabel freed from prison while escaping her own enslavement in 1777 New York City. Curzon immediately explains how he and Isabel lived in New Jersey for a few months, before she ran away with their meager funds in hopes of finding her sister, a quest Curzon refused to support. Months later, Curzon is doing his best to forget Isabel, though the depth of his feelings is made evident in flashbacks of their time together. After Curzon saves the life of Eben, a young rebel soldier, he joins the army and suffers through the winter at Valley Forge; tension mounts when Curzon's former owner arrives. Anderson includes meticulous details about the lives of soldiers and, with just a few words, brings readers deep inside Curzon's experience ("My belly voted louder than my wits"). Her masterful storytelling weaves themes of friendship, politics, love, and liberty into a deeply satisfying tale that will leave readers hungry for the final volume. - "PW, "September 13, 2010, *STAR

Forge

by Laurie Halse Anderson, *STAR

"Forge" is the sequel to "Chains" (2008), but it can be read independently. Anderson has done her research and accurately portrays the horrors of serving in the first Continental Army at Valley Forge. The story within is of slavery in a fledgling nation; the freedom that the founding fathers were fighting for did not extend to their slaves. The hero of the story, Curzon, has already served in the army, but in trying to get away from a cruel master, he is re-enlisted. When his former master reappears, his friends from his squad help him escape, along with Isabel, the heroine of "Chains". The book contains an appendix with glossary, further readings, and Q&A about the historical background and primary sources used. Each chapter begins with a quote pertaining to the war or slavery. While the details are accurate, the book is not gratuitously violent. Curzon is an empathetic character to whom most young people will relate. At the end, when Curzon and Isabel escape, the reader can only hope that all will end well in the next book. Laurie Halse Anderson has again written historical fiction at its finest.

About the BookRead an ExcerptAuthor Interview -- Month YYYY

When Laurie Halse Anderson's novel CHAINS was published in 2008, it became a finalist for the National Book Award and won the Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction. The book introduced young people to an important --- and often overlooked --- chapter in American history, as Anderson told the story of the dawn of the American Revolution through the eyes of a young slave girl.

Anderson now continues this work in FORGE, the second book of what will eventually be a trilogy. Here the narrative shifts gears from Isabel to her friend Curzon, a fellow runaway who becomes separated from Isabel but finds safety --- of a sort --- when he enlists as a soldier fighting on the American side during the Revolutionary War. As one of the few black soldiers, he is disrespected --- and worse --- by some of his peers and his officers. With his customary courage, hard work and loyalty, however, Curzon gains the respect and even the friendship of many of his fellow soldiers.

All the young men's fortitude is brutally tested, however, when they are told to report to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, during the winter of 1777 and 1778. As Curzon and his comrades struggle just to survive, Anderson vividly brings to life the horrifying details of life in Valley Forge, unflinchingly documenting the hardships that most high school history books just gloss over. From surviving days without food to digging trenches in frozen ground to trudging through snowdrifts in just a pair of wet, stinking socks, Curzon's story, and that of all the men, will both repulse readers and remind them of the soldiers' remarkable fortitude and bravery.

Besides being a compelling, unfailingly realistic account of the winter at Valley Forge, though, FORGE's story also serves as a powerful metaphor:

Atheneum, 2010 [304p] (Seeds of America) ISBN 978-1-4169-6144-4 $16.99 Reviewed from galleys R Gr. 7-10

Curzon and Isabel, runaway slaves in Anderson's Chains (BCCB 11/08), have parted company--she is headed south to find her sister Ruth, and he finds work driving a cart for Patriot soldiers. An impulsive act of battlefield bravery leads to Curzon's enlistment as a freeman with the 16th Massachusetts Regiment, and he's now a tentmate with Eban Woodruff, the young man whose life he saved, and John Burns, a sly bigot who waits for an opportunity to drum Curzon out of the army. Personal animosity simmers as the soldiers encamp at Valley Forge for the winter of 1777-8, but Curzon and his comrades cooperate to make the best of dire circumstances. When Burns rises to the rank of sergeant, though, and Curzon's legal owner, James Bellingham, reclaims his service, Curzon begins to plot yet another escape. His situation is immediately complicated by the appearance of Isabel, who has been recaptured and sold to Bellingham. Bellingham knows Curzon will withhold his labor, so he threatens to punish Isabel, who already wears a locked metal cuff around her neck, for each infraction he may cause. Desperate but unable to plan a foolproof escape, Curzon and Isabel are blessed by chance and the unexpected aid of Curzon's old comrades at arms with some slim hope of freedom as the novel ends and they march out of Valley Forge, protectively surrounded by decamping troops. The saga that began as Isabel's tale loses none of its tension as it switches to Curzon's plight, and the pair's situation at the novel's conclusion is precarious enough to suggest--even demand--another volume. Again Anderson crafts her source notes into a reader-friendly Q&A discussion and appends a glossary of eighteenth-century terms. As one of Curzon's mates observes, "This camp is a forge for the army; it's testing our qualities. . . . Question is, what are we made of?" Fork

a terrific historical thriller
By M. Tanenbaum
If by some chance you missed Chains, you'll want to read it before delving into this sequel--the second volume of a planned trilogy. Chains, set at the beginning of the Revolutionary War, focuses on the story of Isabel, a 13-year old slave owned by a prominent New York City family who support the British. Isabel meets another slave, Curzon, with ties to the Patriots, and becomes a spy for the Patriot cause--with the hopes of obtaining her freedom.

In Forge, the story begins where Chains ends, with Isabel and Curzon escaping to freedom, but the focus of the story quickly changes from Isabel to Curzon. The two have separated again, with Isabel running away to try to find her sister and Curzon finding himself in the middle of the Battle of Saratoga, then enlisting in the Patriot army. The irony of a slave fighting for the freedom of others does not escape Curzon, who attempts to argue his case with his friend and fellow soldier Eben. Curzon questions whether bad laws deserve to be broken, but Eben is frustrated by Curzon's logic. "Two slaves running away from their rightful master," he says," is not the same as America wanting to be free of England. Not the same at all."

But when the army arrives at the winter encampment at Valley Forge, white and black soldiers alike are unprepared to deal with the conditions there: about 12,000 soldiers with no barracks, bitter cold, and no meat. The author begins each chapter with a quote from a contemporary source, many of which are increasingly desperate reports from General Washington to the Continental Congress on the need for supplies of all kinds, from food to shoes to clothing. Most days rations consisted of nothing but firecake, a mix of flour and water that tasted like ashes and dirt, and was "hard enough to break rat's teeth." Anderson so successfully evokes conditions at the camp that we groan along with the men at their terrible conditions. But the men manage to find a little humor in their situation..no food means "we've got nothing to fart with." A special treat for Christmas is a piece of chewy pigskin to chew on (I'm assuming like the pigs ears people buy now for our dogs).

Through all the hardship Curzon manages to keep secret that he is really an escaped slave, but he can't stop thinking about Isabel and what might have become of her. Fate is to bring them together again at Valley Forge. While General Washington and Baron von Steuben try to forge the raggedy American volunteers into real troops, Curzon and Isabel try to forge their way to a new relationship...are they more than friends or an ever-bickering brother-sister pair? And can they in turn forge their way to a life of freedom along with the Patriot army?

This book equals Chains in its ability to bring the complex world of Revolutionary America to life--a world in which some struggled for freedom while others were condemned to a life of slavery. What will happen to Curzon and Isabel? We won't know until the last volume in the trilogy comes out next year.

While the main characters in the story are fictional, Anderson integrates their story seamlessly around real-life figures such as Washington, Nathaniel Greene, Charles Wilson Peale, and others, and in an afterword explains clearly which characters are "real" and which are fictional, as well as additional historical explanations. For example, she explains how black Americans fought for both the Patriots and the British. The appendix also provides a wealth of suggestions for future reading.

But don't call her book historical fiction. The author believes historical fiction gets a bum rap from kids. Please, she begs teachers and librarians, in her blog, call her books "HISTORICAL THRILLERS." The phrase historical fiction, she says, makes kids bolt for the exit or writhe on the floor in agony because between Johnny Tremain and the excruciating boredom of history class, they think all things historical are worse than chewing on barbed wire." I think the "thriller" label is justified for Forge, as it is for Chains--I had a hard time putting the book down, and literally gasped with shock at times as I turned the pages. Put this in the hands of young readers, please, and kudos to Anderson for another page turning thriller (with some non-excruciating history thrown in).

Forging Connections in So Many Ways
By James Hiller
I fell in love with strong Isabel in Laurie Halse Anderson's first book, Chains. She is a compelling, original character that, although her status as a slave, didn't accept things as they were. Living in New York City, she befriends another boy in a prison named Curzon, who together escapes to a better life. The sequel, "Forge", picks up the story, with a shift in narrators, and tells an equally compelling story of American independence mixed with slavery.

Escapaing together, Isabel quickly ditches Curzon to find her only surviving family member, younger sister Ruth. Curzon quickly finds himself enveloped once again in the fight for liberty, enmeshing himself with a group of patriots, some more accepting of his skin color than others. Bad timing. The Continental army is spending a very cold winter at Valley Forge. Everyone fights off cold, near starvation, thievery and infighting, until a surprise twist whisks Curzon away into a new set of complications I honestly didn't see coming.

For those of you like myself that adore Isabel, and may have been put off with a change in narrators, I encourage you to not to give up hope. Anderson's book is definitely Curzon's story. It ends up being interesting to view Isabel through this lad's eyes. You get quite a different sense of her, which I truly appreciate. In some ways, Isabel becomes more alive this way, more rounded, more real.

It all comes down to Halse's writing style. Brisk, extremely well researched without dwelling in period details or language that would leave the reader lost, the story moves along at a great pace. Short chapters lend themselves to building tension and drama, and make it ideal for a read aloud. The kids will relate to Curzon right away; his reduced status, in the eyes of some, make him a smart, "cheer"-able underdog. While I didn't think this at first, it was a great move to have Curzon pick up this part of the story.

In all, this series of books is a brilliant twist on an all-too-familiar story. Having African-American characters participate in a battle for freedom, in which their own freedom is non-existent, speaks volumes to the unexplored in children's literature racial conflict that is a compelling paradox to our American Revolution. In Halse's deft and skilled writing hands, it ultimately is a winner of a book all around.

Readers will likely relish its sensitive storytelling as well as its gutsy depictions
By Teen Reads

Besides being a compelling, unfailingly realistic account of the winter at Valley Forge, though, FORGE's story also serves as a powerful metaphor: "This camp is a forge for the army," remarks one character. "It's testing our qualities. Instead of heat and hammer, our trials are cold and hunger. Question is, what are we made of?"

What indeed? Curzon finds himself asking this question and others when his past as a runaway slave starts to catch up with him. By all accounts, he should be freed; he has kept his part of a bargain that he made months earlier. But he doesn't have paperwork showing he's been freed, and if he's revealed as a runaway, hunger and cold will be the least of his problems. One beloved but complicated relationship from his past also resurfaces when he encounters Isabel once more and must deal not only with their shared and separate histories but also with his evolving feelings toward her.

Once again, in FORGE, Laurie Halse Anderson has managed to compose a historical novel that feels both entirely true to its period and completely contemporary. Curzon's voice rings true as that of an 18th-century young man, but its sophisticated narration and storytelling style introduce contemporary perspectives seamlessly in ways that will not only allow readers to reflect on their own times but also to reconsider their understanding of and approach to history. With its extensive historical notes and glossary, FORGE (like CHAINS) would be an ideal classroom companion to more traditional history-book fare, one that readers will likely relish as much for its sensitive storytelling as for its gutsy depictions.

Coming to Your Senses: Why You Can't Change & How to Change That, by Steve Korch

A new book about God's unique plan for changing our lives. This book speaks to one of the most important yet least understood priorities of the Christian life--change. Steve Korch addresses two big questions: (1) How does God bring about authentic change in the lives of His people? (2) What does authentic change really look like? This is not just another "how to" book with more burdensome lists of application steps. In fact, there are none. While recognizing the vital role of practical direction, this book goes behind the "how to's" and addresses the very thoughts and images that drive the reader's decisions. Through stories, contemporary issues and creative exposition of the Scriptures Steve explores a different way of thinking that results in a different way of living. For readers who seek to live as different people, the promise of this book is simple: authentic change is literally a matter of coming to our (spiritual) senses.

An important contribution on spiritual vitality
By Dr. Gary Tuck
The title captures our attention and captures the heartbeat of the book. It is about “senses.” And it is about how to break through to experience change for the better.

Professor and Pastor, Dr. Steve Korch directs our attention to the realm of the spiritual through such “senses” as wonder and presence and eternity, carefully keeping God at the center. He is not content with trivial or clich banter but exhibits sensitivity to life even at its most painful. “Why am I doing what I am doing? Does any of this really matter? What’s the point? … Do I matter? Am I enough? Does anyone really care?”

He writes with engaging flow and vivid images and lively connection points. Most importantly, his message is gripping and serious. This life is temporal and terminal; we must concentrate on the unseen and eternal. For, ready or not, it will soon overtake us. Yet this life is important: important enough that we must change and change in improving ways.

“The change God desires to produce in us is tied to a larger story.” Life is about the after-life. And the after-life hones our daily purpose, giving direction to intentional change. But it’s the Life-giver who gives the power for that change.

A Treasure Map
By PW
Sometimes a 'reviewer' wants to stop writing about a book and stand up and CHEER. . !

This book is a work of art.

Like the unfolding of a newly discovered treasure map, Steve Korch invites the reader to keenly inspect clues, step by step, together sleuthing out the answers which lead to identifying and ultimately experiencing authentic, permanent, whole-hearted, positive, genuine change.

Written with breathtaking transparency, genuine humility, humor (there are hidden treasures in the the body of work and in the 'footnotes' for the reader to discover), we are challenged to explore the ways in which what we believe determines how we live. . . and how we live reveals what we believe.

By looking at what's good and where we have gone astray, exploring assumptions and expectations, asking insightful, provocative, searching questions, a journey is begun--a journey that encourages and enables the reader to be reshaped by an entirely new way of thinking.

Clearly profound yet exuding the relaxedness of an over-a-cuppa-coffee-chat with a friend.

The reader cannot come away without having more fully 'come to one's senses' and begun a metamorphosis in perception, understanding
and--ultimately--living.

Changed to the core
By Dee
“I am convinced that a changed and changing life is at the core of the Gospel… I am also convinced that God Himself is the sole agent of that change.” Steve Korch

From the first pages to the last, this author has deftly woven the truth of our calling in Christ as about more than being changed into a new person, but a new kind of person – called not simply to a new life, but a new kind of life.

What I loved about the book, in a word - Transcendence - the forgotten factor of this new dimension in which and from which we are called to live.

Coming to Your Senses offers a clear path to the transcendent life available to every believer - an escape route from the good enough, mundane and disappointing to a reality perceivable only by our spiritual senses - formed by God’s Spirit within us and nurtured by what our hearts believe – God’s reality, and our (imperfect) significance in it. Loved it!!!
