A lovely love story .....

The Doctor's Runaway Bride by Sarah Morgan
Harlequin Presents # 2366 - December 2003

Dr. Luca Zattoni follows his pregnant runaway bride to England, only to find that Tia doesn't want to see or speak to him again. He surprises her when he takes a job as obstitrician at the hospital where she is a nurse/midwife. Luca knows that their whirlwind affair in Italy and her unexpected pregnancy, has really scared Tia. But he can't understand her reluctance to continue their relationship; she refuses to tell him what shook her up so much that she left him waiting at the altar. Tia's been in love with Luca from the moment she met him, but she knows that Luca really doesn't want to marry her and only proposed because of the baby. And on her wedding day, she overheard Luca's mother in conversation with a beautiful woman. And what she heard made her positive that Luca would be happier without her and her baby.

This was a charming story. I love the way Luca moves in on Tia's world, but still respects her wishes to step back and give them both room to get to know each other. Ms. Morgan created a lovely love story and I'm glad Tia and Luca found their HEA.

It Was Alright

This book was alright, nothing exceptional but not awful either. I actually really liked the hero, he wasn't overly aggressive or demanding like the hero's in these books usually are. The heroine could have used a bit more of a backbone, many of their problems could have been resolved if she'd just talked with the hero.

My main issue with this book was that it spent entirely to much time on medical issues that had nothing to do with the development between the hero and heroine. If I wanted to have the definition of a bunch of medical terms than I would invest in a text book. I wish the author would have spent more pages on the development of their relationship than on their jobs. Also, one more thing that bothered be was the overuse of the word bleep. I don't know if that's a common word in the UK or not but it was severely overused in this book.

I agree with the review of It Was Alright. I thought I was reading a medical book on pregnant women and giving birth. It was entirely too much medical jargon for me. The only good thing in this book is the depiction and description of Luca Zattoni. He was to die for and the only thing that kept me reading. Tia acted and sounded like a little girl. She wanted things all her way without having any proof that Luca loved someone else. She only overheard a conversation and unlike most women confronted with a piece of news on the day of her wedding, instead of confronting him and asking for answers she runs off like a spoiled child. I am a fan of Sarah Morgan but this is one book I could have done without.

Enid and George?But What About Robin????

This book was great.In this book George takes Enid for a plane ride expecting to tell her the truuth that he loves someone else,Robin Wilson.But all that changes when the plane looses control and crashes leaving Enid paryalazed from saving George.George feels so so guilty.How can George tell Enid his secret?But what if Enid is keeping one to? Elizabeh knows all about George and Robin but she dosent think its not of her busniess to tell.But does she tell anyway?Jessica is at it again!Shes fallen for her cooking teacher Jean-Pierre.But when Jessica finds out the truth about her teacher how will she handle it?This book was very good and I would recomnd this to any other sweet valley fans

Decent, not great.

This is a readable and (a little bit) entertaining book about guilt, love, and depression. When Enid is left injured from a plane accident, her boyfriend, George, is overwhelmed with guilt. Now, he feels too bad to break up with her and date Robin. Can Liz help Enid overcome her fear and let George go? It won't keep you up at night reading

I'm sick of accidents. Liz and the motorbike was enough. But anyway, not very great book but read it if you like the series. I think Liz is boring. Without Jess this book (and the whole series) would suck!

dirty. The teacher had given me his own proof, taken straight from
the Qur'an, that all Jews are either pigs or monkeys: "Say should I
tell you about an evil as judgment from Allah, the one which
Allah curses him, and being angry of them, and made from them
monkeys and pigs those who worshipped evil;- these are worse in
position, and far more astray from the right path!" ( سورة
المائدة , Al-Maeda, Chapter # 5, Verse # 60). In such culture,
you have one of two choices: either you decide to be part of it,
either you decide to find the truth. Who in the world is going to
believe that God the Almighty transformed Jews into pigs and
monkeys because they went fishing on a Saturday? That story
made me question the legitimacy of the Qur'an.
It doesn't make sense that Allah, which Muslims claim is the
most just god, is going to turn someone into a pig and monkey for
trying to feed his children. Especially after reading the
interpretation of the story which states that Allah purposely caused
the fish to disappear during an entire week except for Saturday as it
then reappeared. This means Allah made the Jews starve, on top of
punishing them for trying to survive which is a contradiction to
Qur'an 5:3 "But if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination to
transgression, Allah is indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (Yusuf
Ali translation).
Many questions came to my mind since hearing that story.
Why doesn't Allah turn the killers, rapists and thieves into pigs and
monkeys instead of the ones fishing on a Saturday?

Consequently, it's what made me study Islam in addition to
all the accusation Muslims had against my belief as a Christian. I
worked hard reading as much as I could in order to learn and
educate myself. After graduating from high school, I decided to
study the Islamic law which would qualify me to work as a lawyer
or as a judge in any Islamic state. As a matter of fact, the degrees I
have are not what made me knowledgeable about Islam, rather it
was the hard work and many years of researching the Islamic
books. There came a point where I felt it was my time to inform
people, with my help and knowledge, inform them of the truth
about Islam. I hope that whoever is going to read both volumes of
The Deception of Allah as well as my upcoming books will find the
answers which are "politically incorrect" to his and her questions.

Great book to learn and educate truth about Islam religion and how millions of Muslims are being lied to and mislead. I always wondered why there is no ethics in islamic culture and this answers all questions of who Allah is. Author is very knowledgeable and detailed. Would highly recommend this book.

Paltalk's Christian Prince writes an excellent book on islam

I have been listening to Christian Prince on Paltalk for many a day now.. I have found him to be the most well informed Christian apologist and Islamic scholar that I have ever met.. I have spent many decades around muslims and had no idea of what islam is really all about until I met CP on Paltalk in his room. His book is as generous as he is in person on exposing islam as a sick system of religion. My hope is that many churches will purchase enough copies to pass around to their members and sit and study the truth ( all of it confirmable) about isLAM.. Also it would behoove all christians and jews to come to paltalk and listen to CP expose islam giving sources that anyone can confirm.. Many of his sources are directly from the King of Saudi Arabia's site.. please purchase this book . you will not regret learning islam from the perspective of verifiable truth...

Everyone a Leader
David Colcleugh

The concepts behind the book, of taking responsibility, of value adding to the worth of projects, is similar across disciplines. Colceugh uses his experience and knowledge to establish a framework for those young in the industry to apply to their framework.
It suggests that leadership is a trait that each individual can apply to their situation. That this leadership element can be fostered and developed as individuals develop from engineers to leader-engineers.

Colceugh utilises his experiences, particularly at DuPont, to give practical applications to the theories and models he puts forward.
David Colcleugh retired as Chairman, President, and CEO of DuPont Canada in 2003 after a 39-year career with the company. He currently teaches Leadership Development in the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Engineering at the University of Toronto.

I would suggest this book for student engineers, those young in their careers, and those that are having difficulty coping with the changing world, particularly as business and technology continue to invade the world of engineering.

Still among the best Gripping Yarns

"Island of Adventure" was the first of Blyton's "Adventure" series books, and was published in 1944. American readers may have encountered it in their childhood libraries as "Mystery Island", the title adopted for the U.S. edition.

The book introduces Jack (the bird lover) and his sister Lucy-Ann (a bit on the timid side). They are orphans who are informally adopted by Mrs. Mannering because of their friendship with Mrs. Mannering's children and because of her great fondness for them. Mrs. Mannering's children are Philip (the animal whisperer) and Dinah (squeamish about animals, but level headed and independent). The cast is rounded out by Kiki, Jack's pet parrot and the comic relief in the books. The children's ages range from 14 for Jack and Philip to 12 for Dinah and 11 for Lucy-Ann.

In each book the two sets of siblings find themselves on school vacation with Mrs. Mannering, (and later also with Bill Smugs - Mrs. Mannering's friend and a member of an unspecified British secret service). Each book starts out with the family going on a simple, relaxing holiday, but mystery, suspense and skullduggery always rears its head about three chapters in. The books feature islands, castles, underground rivers, subterranean tunnels, spies, smugglers, assassins, and other neer do wells.

In "Island of Adventure", the children are staying at a craggy old house set against a steep cliff. From there they can see Gloom Island. After learning to sail they visit the Island and all sorts of mysteries are uncovered and adventures undertaken.

This book sets out all of the characters, their relationships to each other, their various personalities and the group dynamics, (Philip teases Dinah, Lucy-Ann dotes on brother Jack, and so on), that will be consistent throughout the series. It's not necessary to start the series here, or to follow the books chronologically, but it probably would be helpful since this book does establish all of the basics. (Each later book does rather efficiently set this out again, in the first chapters, for new readers.)

This is probably the weakest book from a girl's point of view, since the two girls are much less involved in the most exciting parts than in any other book. This is also the book with the most tone deaf references to ethnic stereotypes, (unless you get a later edition where some of that has been edited out). As I say, the books get more balanced as the series goes on. Perhaps the strongest note, apart from the whiz bang adventure, is that apart from some teasing and the like all of the children trust and admire each other, and the siblings are loyal to each other and their friends. There is none of the incessant sibling conflict that is popular in many current books. There is no moralizing or preaching, but there is a powerful undercurrent of courage, bravery and doing one's duty that is always in the background.

Blyton was criticized by "serious" reviewers for using short declaratory sentences and an undemanding vocabulary. Her response was that she did not listen to any critic who was over 12 years old. That said, these are not light weight or simpleminded books. The characters have charm and individual personalities. There is no pretense of grand literary accomplishment, but these are exhilarating and suspenseful adventure tales, well told. It is a testament to their quality that most of the reviews at this site have been written by people who read the books in the childhoods and still remember them vividly.

And, these books do stand the test of time. Caves, tunnels, floods, deep holes, secret passages, hidden doors, underground rivers, abandoned buildings, creepy noises, mysterious lights and sounds - all of the standards of tween adventure - start here, in the hands of a writer who knew how to tell a gripping story.

These books were hard to find in the U.S. until reprints began to appear. I'm delighted to see that we now have Kindle versions, which makes it easy and relatively inexpensive to try one. If you have a tween reader who likes gung-ho adventure and imaginative larking about, then one of these might be worth a try.

Good children's book

I devoured these Enid Blyton books when I was a kid, and while I can't say I remember much about them -- or even whether I read this particular one -- I do remember that I loved them. I guess they're eclipsed by Harry Potter these days, but if you have or are a kid in the right age group who loves kids' adventure stories, you may want to give these a try.

Just what we needed, another set of standards set up by a "vision" committee

Am I way off base here or did School Library Media Centres really need another set of guidelines? This thin volume outlines a more current set of standards/guidelines without saying very much new. I am beginning to think that saying something/anything is the new coin of the realm (I am part of this answer/problem with this review).

As I write this, I have read 1/2 of the item and so far is seems like wishful thinking. Working with teachers, an administration and students is a struggle. Coming up with standards is only a goal and I don't think that it has much to do with the day to day reality. Perhaps, I am happier with the previous set of goals/standards set forth in "Information power: bulding partnerships for learning"

To add injury to insult is the price of this item. In considering the "usable" text, the price comes down to almost $1.00/page. This is something which should have been posted on the Internet, especially if AASL wanted to make it available to all stake holders.

The National Exam is Based on This Book

The updated version (Sept. 2009) of the Library Media Specialist Praxis exam by ETS is now based on this book (instead of Information Power). Good to know, and good luck!

This book is a dud & does not provide any useable info. It is basically AASL/ALA hoopla. ANy time these organizations publish books it is only to make money off MLIS students who are forced to purchase them for courses. The AASL needs to get into the real world of school libraries so something useful comes from the organization.
